Itchycoo Park - Atlantic update - Leg 2, Day 3

Last night our skipper was hit by a flying fish, he reacted with courage,
dignity and masculinity.

Early evening is a nice time to be on Deck, I had just finished clearing
up after dinner and contemplating a sleep before starting my night watch.
Skipper, who was on the helm at the time brought to our attention a flying
fish that had landed on the deck just outside the cockpit. With our
torches we were able to take a close look at our visitor, marveling at the
colours and wing structure. With a flip and flap the fish was able to find
his way back to his watery home.

At that moment there was a high pitched squeal from behind us, as the
noise reduced in pitch to a level within the human register we heard the
cry "A fish, a flying fish, I have been hit with a flying fish, a flying
fish, a flying fish". When we turned around we saw the look of terror on
our skippers face, but we could not see his legs.

As our eyes adjusted we saw his legs were a blur of movement. hopping,
stepping, jumping each leg with its own pattern and energy. It was like
watching River Dance in Fast Forward.

We shone our torches on the floor of the cockpit and there was our
skippers combatant, lying quite still on the floor. When shining the light
into his face I am sure I saw a smile, was he pleased with the stunt he
had just pulled or was he like us, trying to suppress a laugh at the
expense of the skippers reaction? We will never know, but we thought he
deserved to live another day so we sent him back from where he came and
peace and tranquility returned to Ithcycoo Park.
