Lunni - ARC+ Leg1 Day 6 - catching mahi-mahi with Ed the Iguana

We have had two beautiful days at sea. Crew is now used to the cruising routines, and we have enjoyed slow sailing with weak winds, waves and swells. That means we miss the Sunday evening timeline of ARC+ in Mindelo but will arrive there by Monday morning.

Ed the Iguana has followed Oskar to read, eat, play and sleep. Ed has given Oskar more courage on those days when our speed has been too slow to arrive in time in Mindelo.

Yesterday Oskar and Robert and Ed the Iguana asked again to try fishing. Ok, we put some pink and white to the line and forgot it. We were inside moving our water bottles from front to back when Niko shouted ”Kala!” (Fish in Finnish). We have practiced emergencies with the crew but not catching an open water game-fish. Although, it seemed that everyone knew what to do.

Reko took the line in, Niko took the hook and gopro to his vests, Robert started to take photos, Oskar was standby with Ed the Iguana, Satu took water and a hammer - oh the winch handle was near that will do, and started to search lemons. It all happened so fast. It was beautiful green-golden dorado, as soon as we had it on side, Niko catched and lifted it up with the hook. Beautiful strong green-blue-golden fish at least 20kg 1.3metres jumped off the hook on the deck, Reko wrestled with it a while and then the winch handle. That’s it. Ed the Iguana was wery pleased. Within half an hour we had Lunni gourmet mahi-mahi steak with lemons.
