Helen - Day 8, fuel tactics

One of the other highlights at sea is watching the sun rise. Please see my picture from the other day which includes my second bird sighting, a tropic bird. I am very glad that I was able to get the bird to pose for the photograph!

Ask any sailor about the wind and you will be told that a lot of the time there is either too much or too little. The ARC+ this year is certainly in the latter category.

In the last 24 hours we have travelled 145 miles on 120 litres of fuel. However, like all boats in the fleet, we have a finite amount of fuel. The captain reckons that we have 5.75 days to get to St Lucia but only 4.5 days of fuel left.

Hopefully the wind will return so that we can do some sailing but in the meantime we need to start conserving energy.

We have three fridges on board and one needs to be shut down. There is the galley fridge, the salad fridge and the beer fridge. Which would you choose?

The crew of Yacht Helen voted 4 to 1 to abandon the salad fridge!! (The beer fridge does also have some water in it as well!).

This is Ed the Iguana, on the way to the Galapogos.

Only 5 days left to sponsor my adventure.

Please help those kids in Mindelo.
