Mad Monkey - Boat Prep Finished and TUNA for Dinner !

After 4702+ miles sailing around the Mediterranean, Mad Monkey is now ready for ARC inspection!
Maybe like many yachts, we are used to only having a maximum of 3 weeks holiday per year at any 1 time sailing, and thus maybe not enough time to fully test out / shake out all kit onboard, thus the reason for our 3 month jolly’ (sorry… equipment test voyage) around the Mediterranean prior to our ARC (then WARC) adventure. Apart from the hot water hose exploding between the engine and hot water exchange module flooding the bilges with water, and then the primary fuel filter bleed nut gasket leaking thus pouring 30Ltr’s + again into the bilges nothing really failed! I guess that’s a good result as neither of the above one would normally not change during routine maintenance… (but maybe now!).

With Josh studying for further maths whilst sailing during his 2 year gap between leaving upper 6th form prior to university he’s keeping his mind ticking-over in education mode, indeed, challenging crew with wild’ mathematical equations when the questions get tough!!! Of course with a multi European crew of multiple ages we could advise him with our best answers (use your life lines and call a friend!).

Having now completed routine maintenance tasks on-board, we are now awaiting for our 3 crew members to arrive to join Helen, Josh and I for our ARC adventure, our 1st Atlantic crossing of which we are all looking forward to. With Josh’s 19th birthday this Friday the task to hide presents onboard without him finding them is getting more and more challenging, as indeed he knows we are slipping off to find such goodies however is intrigued with what we will find! Roll on Friday…

With our largest catch to-date (picture in attachment being held by crew member Stewart) a TUNA of 50Lb+ we are keen to learn more recipes, both sushi style and indeed cooked… (if you know of any please do advise) Having caught other specimens like dorado (dolphinfish/Mahi Mahi), king mackerel, parrot fish etc. We are keen to learn what the broader Atlantic ocean will provide…

Looking forward to the next 4 weeks of party!!!

Skipper Mark
