Laura Dawn - French Polynesia Log 1: Exploring

Bonjour! Can't believe we have been here 3 days already. Its been a whirlwind of boat jobs, cleaning and re-stocking produce. The walk to town from the anchorage in Hiva Oa at about 40 minutes each way got the blood pumping in our legs again, although our muscles are objecting slightly to the exercise after 21 days of laps around 46 foot of catamaran!

Great to explore town a little though and meet some local folk (all of whom have been incredibly friendly and forgiving of our french speaking attempts).

Now we are off exploring the islands. We left Hiva Oa yesterday afternoon after some local lunch of tuna ceviche and baked bananas in coconut and hoisted the sails headed to Tahuata Island, just below Hiva Oa, about 15 miles. We anchored in a beautiful bay and had our first (blissful and very welcome) swim since getting to French Polynesia. We've been Manta Ray spotting, successfully from the boat although we did take the dinghy out into the bay to try to find more, without success I'm afraid.

After some tomfoolery attempting back flips off the dinghy (yes we do have video), we got into French style and had pate, french bread and a little tipple of red wine for lunch. We're heading off later today for another bay to explore this amazing place some more. So far we've been blown away by its beauty, high ridges, waterfalls and incredible scenery everywhere you look.

Looking forward to exploring more... Meilleures salutations...
