Lexington - 3/24/17. Hiva Oa , Marquesas Islands

We are anchored at Tahauka Bay on the island of Hiva Oa in the Marquesas. The adjacent town is Atuona. This is where we cleared into the Marquesas. We have done a little exploring. Today I joined some others who had arranged a taxi tour of the island. The other boat that had arranged the tour was Aurora with Ken and Eileen Swan, the owners. Ken is a retired chemical engineer who worked for drug companies with the chemical engineering that goes into drug manufacturing. He met Eileen while working in Ireland. He was staying at an Inn that Eileen's family ran. Today we drove from one end of the island to the other. A lot of the roadway was rough and we were in a fourwheel drive pickup truck in order to make the steep hills and switchbacks. The island is volcanic with fantastic cliffs and views of the sea. The island is very lush with green plants everywhere. There were banana trees, grapefruit trees, mango trees and orange trees. I am sure there were others that I've forgotten. I have internet so I will send photos. {CAPTION}

The next photo is where tattoos were done. The gentleman is our guide who is seated on a stone chair. In front of him is a stone with a bowl carved out for the tattoo dye. To the right is a larger bowl (not shown) used to wash off the area of the tattoo. {CAPTION}

The next photo is another group doing the same tour. {CAPTION}

The fella on the left is from a boat named North. He is a retired race car driver from Greece with his significant other beside him. Their names are Nejat Avci and Melike Pirinccioglu. As I have said before, there are a lot of diverse people doing the World Arc. May fair winds fill your sails with many interesting people! Bob
