EH01 - Day 17, 18 & 19

Final hello from the crew of EH01!!!!

We are now 35nm from Rodney Bay and you can smell the ginger ale from the Dark and Stormeys.... so this will be the last blog and it was great chatting with you and receiving your telepathic best wishes and if you would like to contact Team EH01 we will be in the nearest beach bar to our berth.!!

Last night and this morning were tough, we had awful sea states and were on the end of gusty winds and trucked along with the kite all night. Most of the crew only got 1-2 hours sleeps so there was some tired heads this morning and after some slow manouveres we are heading towards our final waypoint.!  Kudos to all our great helms on both watches as they really pushed the distance over the last couple of days
It looks like the Jimbo or Starkers could be in to win the pool as our potential arrival time rum Rodney Bay is Friday 9th around 8-9pm boat time.

Cass`s Birthday (Thursday 8th)
We had thought that we would be land loving by the time that Cass`s birthday rolled around but unfortunately this was not to be.
Marketing pooled their limited resources and a card was made out of cake boxes which was signed by all on board. The big presentation was at the midnight watch change where Andras gave the whole box of Ferrer Rocher to Cass who shared them round to all the crew, Pricey also had ginger nuts which he shared at 4am to our watch so was a big celebratory night all round.! Cass`s main Birthday present was one of the crew doing his daily chore which was cleaning the heads, our generosity knows no bounds..!

~
Meet the sailors
Management team
#1: Head Honcho- (Skipper)- Andras Bakody.
Andras hails from Budapest and has been sailing since he was a young nipper where he honed his trade on the lakes in the countryside outside Budapest. He is a great teacher and gives direction concisely in his clipped tones especially when the crew member is on the helm and trying to avoid a near broach.!!
Andraas said that he misses his family and friends and he really wishes he brought more pretzels.. although the Marketing director knows he has a secret snack stash so will recce the crew for a cabin search later and also for a soak in that famous hot-tub.!

#2- Operations director (First mate)- Rich Price, nickname Pricey, answers to Rich
Rich is from Bristol and learned to sail in the All Aboard sailing club in the Bristol docks where he is now a senior instructor. He is also a skipper for the John Lewis sailing club. Rich manages Pricey Pirates and ensure crew members are on time for watch and has a great supply of biccies, chocolate and ginger nuts which he shared with some of us waifs..! Rich says he really misses his family and friends and wishes he had brought more T-shirts.. although there is enough seemingly unwanted T-shirts and boxers on the fruits nets so he could pick up some new ones..!! Rich is also great to have on board with his extensive skillset of unblocking heads to the “Master of the Pit”,

#3- Operations executive-(Second Mate)- James Harayda- nickname Jimbo, answers to Jimbo, Jimbob, Jimmy
Jimbo was  born with a spinnaker sheet in his hand, he hails from the UK and lives in Singapore and is working with Perfomance Yacht racing doing the race trainership programme. He has done some
offshore racing including the Middle Sea race which is fantastic for someone so young.
Jimbo has a hard job on his hands as he has to keep Paul, Cass and Peder in line.. Jimbo loves his sleep and waking him up for watch is fun, a mutually agreed method of shining white light in his face seems to be a winner. I also think James may have been brought up with the circus as his acrobatics on the harness fetching and retrieving lines is second to none..!

Production shift 1- Jimbo`s Jollies
#4- Cass Monks- Monkey, Monkmeister, Cassmeister etc
Cass is from Leigh-on-sea and is an avid member of EYC where he sails dinghies. Cass`s love for sailing runs in the blood as both his mum and dad are keen sailors and his mum also did the Arc in the early 2000s, fair play Mrs. Monks..
Cass is a great problem solver and sorted out our AIS system and also the nav system? where we had problems with it one night. He also has teameup with Dougie and Andras to make a great fish catching and slaugtering team. Cass loves his music and eventhough we never got a chance to launch that part of the blog I can definitely confirm that his taste is extreme and eclectic..!  Cass said that he misses his wife Jacqui and his 2 kids: Daniel and Alfie who are all following him on the yellowbrick tracker.

#5- Paul Bidwell
Paul is a self proclaimed 45th generation Roman and hails from London and lives in Hertfordshire. Paul mainly sails dinghies in his local sailing club and also enjoys his annual outing with the guys for the Round the Island race. Paul always greets you in the morning with a cheery “hello treacle” or “hello darling”.
He is one of the fastest spinnakers halyard hoisters that I have ever seen and is the best cleaner of the heads on board.

#6- Peder Vilemoes
Peder is the only crew member to have crossed the Atlantic before, he did it a few years back as a cruise with his son.
Peder is our Danish crew member and has by far the best male chic on the boat, he looks like he has shares in a Musto and a Gill store.
Peder intoduced us to the Skipper pipes: liquorice pipes which are very popular in Denmark which he very kindly shared with us on his Birthday.
He joins the rest of the Jimbo Jollies with his eclectic music taste (Ozzy-Ozzy-Ozzy –oi-oi-oi) and fits in very well to that team.!

Production shift 2- Pricey`s Pirates
#7- Giles Starkey- Starkey, Starkers, Gilles
Giles also hails from Leigh-on-sea and is pals with Cass from the EYC. Giles is a very keen sailor and mainly dinghy sails where he gets the family involved: rumour has it he broke his wife Jane`s ribs last year as he did a crash tactic with Jane on the trapeze. Giles is great on the bow and is calm in a crisis especially when we are hitting squalls.! Giles said he misses his family: his wife Jane and 2 boys: Max and Sam and is sad to be missing Max`s debut in Grease, we could do with some good singers on this boat! Giles also misses the heat seeking attention of Mittons and Cocoa, his cats, although their furry warmth is probably not necessary on this 30`C boat. Starkey wishes that he had brought some more clothes pegs and also a lot more snacks eventhough the weightloss has been great and he has had to insert yet another hole in his belt.!

#8- Doug Strebel- Dougie
Dougie is our Texan sailor who brings a lot of positivity and TLAs (three letter acronyms and great positive sayings to EH01..! He is engaged to Amazing Amy who is also sailing the Arc on “Diamonds are Forever” who are @500miles behind us.  Dougie is a great sailor and an excellent helm in all weathers and brings a lot of knowledge to the boat. He is very helpful at giving sailing advice and if you are lucky you can get on “Dougies couch” for other advice at 3am midwatch! Doug is also a great fisherman and is on our lovely fish-slaughter team.. Dougie has a mini-music studio going on and we are never bored with his broad range of music.!
Don`t tell Amazing Amy but Dougie is great in the kitchen from cerviche to bacon and fish risotto to baking bread and cakes, she is going to be a lucky gal when they get married...!!

#9- Ionut Lupu- Helming Harry
Harry is from Bucharest and is a really good helmsman, being calm and collected in all weathers.
Harry is also a fan of a wide range of music from Michael Buble to the Goo goo dolls. He said that he really misses Ramona, his wife and his 2 children Edward and Amelia....... Harry wishes that he had brought wet weather gear, sun-cream, aftersun, vitamins and protein bars.!

#10-Storme Delaney- Stormey, Stormer, Delooney
Storme is from sunny Sandycove in Dublin and comes from a long sailing line on her mother`s side as her great uncle Larry was one of the early commodores in the National. She sails in the RIYC (best yacht club in DL) and likes a bit of blue sky regatta-ing: Thailand, Antigua, Palma, anywhere to boost the reserves of Vitamin D. Other than family, friends and Pixie the cat (thanks to the Bells, Delooneys, Nicolette, Gill & Aoife for feeding her) what she really misses is independence and while loving being e-dark is missing any external communication as there is none a tall on the boat.! and not to mention Ferraris & Ianellis, the Ringsend chippers.! Storme really wishes that she brought an extra headtorch, salt friendly shower gel/shampoo (she has to barter for one), clothes pegs and a truckload of snacks..!

it’s time to say good bye now. it’s been great to keep you updated, we’ll call/text you from the beach bar in a few hours.
