Fleet II - Log: Tuesday 29th November - random thougts

Another day of calm seas and very little wind – who would have thought the Atlantic would be like this?  What is also amazing is how clean and pure the water is.  Its so refreshing to bathe on the stern platform (safely secured of course) with just soap and a few buckets of seawater – there’s no need for a fresh water rinse.  We’re using it to wash dishes and clothes too, tho’ it did leave the mashed potato a tad salty!

We’ve not physically seen another boat for around a week now, and its probably been four days since we saw one on the electronic navigation.  Being on night watch last night was awesome – gazing up into the stars knowing that we are the only people for miles around.  I took the opportunity to play my music loud and sing along to some favourite tunes (thank you Ian Hunter!) – fortunately a combination of ear plugs and the engine meant I wasn’t heard on board.

For most of today the engine and the autopilot have been on, so we’ve amused ourselves in ways other than sailing.  Peter has developed some home made ginger beer, while Keith has cleaned the boat again – his consultant surgeon’s approach to cleanliness is a real benefit to all of us!  Kim brought out some home made cake (from home!) which went very well with our afternoon tea – not long after our lunchtime pizza and not too long before our fish pie for dinner!  We’re getting our calories in ready for some sailing – the forecast says the wind will start to blow tomorrow and we’ll arrive early Monday morning.  Fingers crossed its right – we’re keen and ready now for the final push.
All the best
Colin
