Bluewaft - Bluewaft Log Day 8

Bluewaft Log Day 8
Sunday 27 November 2016
21°03’.737N 029°25’.016W
We managed some good sailing yesterday, but by last night the winds died
and what wind there was, was largely on the nose. We spent the day motor
sailing, switching off the engine when-ever winds permitted. We took the
opportunity to watch a film (“Team America”). The film was interrupted by
a big squall that provided some much needed wind and gave the boat a good
wash down. Unfortunately the wind didn’t last and we spent the night motor
sailing on very calm seas. We’ve spent the morning mulling over our fuel
consumption, the likely approach of the low from the North and how much
fuel we’ll need for motoring and the generator between now and reaching St
Lucia.
In the morning we found we had company, with three monohulls all within
‘cooee’. We had a radio chat with “Zoe” out of Italy (a 41ft monohull on
the Blue Ocean Odyssey). We spotted a whale off their port bow which they
hadn’t noticed. A big surprise! They’d had more luck fishing than us and
had decided to put the rods away (much to our chargin).
We resorted to more of the beef for a big BBQ and drowned our fishing
sorrows with a nice bottle of Spanish red. Life’s not too tough! Chicken
curry planned for tonight – unless we catch some fish of course!
Here’s hoping for wind!
