White Satin - Champagne Sailing

Friday 25 November.
715 miles sailed and 2128 to go.

We are currently sailing on the parasailor (a type of spinnaker sail, see
photo), making about 6 knots in a perfect direction for St Lucia in light
winds. All very smooth, so much so that we've just completed a game of
contract whist on deck. The only interruption came from a school of dolphins
playing around the boat. Jon won, and no cards were lost overboard. We are
hopeful that later today we will be halfway to halfway. In the meantime, we
are very much enjoying this 'champagne sailing'.

On the rations front, we enjoyed our last fresh meat last night, so cured
meat, tinned meat or no meat from now on. We've finally got through the
mangoes and persimmons (no, I'd never heard of them either, they are caquis
in Spanish and delicious), so a hiatus in fruit eating until the bananas and
kiwi fruit are ripe. Needless to say, we do still have a few cucumbers.

For those of you who might be concerned about the German family who had to
abandon their boat, they are now in Tenerife, presumably dropped there by
the commercial vessel James Cook. They had sold up their house, car etc. to
undertake a two-year sailing adventure. They are constantly cropping up in
our thoughts and conversations.

Reflective times.

Helen
