Fleet II - Log Thursday 17th November:- we're off again

Firstly, we’re delighted to hear via the SSBnet that Endeavour of Cork has managed to fix things and are on their way – well done guys!

Most of the rest of us left Mindelo at 1pm yesterday – it was a glorious sight with around 70 of us sailing out against the backdrop of Mindelo harbour and the Sao Vicento island.  It was a tad less aggressive than the start from Las Palmas, but all the better for that!  The fleet slowly stretched out in light winds, with us again towards the rear; Fleet II definitely perform better when we have some stronger breeze.

A quiet night was followed by a quiet day, with winds still down around ten knots.  As our mast wasn’t much use for sails we got Kim, our Devonian Morris dancer, to teach us how to dance the maypole (well we had
to use Keith’s ropes for something).  So, Keith in his kilt, Kim in is full dancing regalia and Peter and Colin (in swimwear) learnt the maypole dance and tied the perfect pole Mid Atlantic.  Fortunately, it takes four as a minimum to do so, so there are no pictures!  Another couple of hours untying and then re-rigging and we were back on our way – what’s half a day with 2,000 miles still to go?

Greetings to all
Colin
