Paw Paw - Log Day 153: Where in the World Are We!

Well, the blustery and overcast weather continued today, but much improved from yesterday and is expected to continue to improve over the weekend.

If the forecasts are correct, we're hoping to move to Fare, on the northwest coast of Huahine, either tomorrow or Sunday, so that we can do some provisioning before heading to Raiatea or Tahaa on Monday or Tuesday and not a moment too soon. We're starting to wonder "where in the world are we" and perhaps have entered a parallel universe, where the South Pacific as we know it, is no more. It didn't help that the Dutch couple we met today from Vela, one of the yachts who have shared the anchorage with us through this storm, have been sailing here for three years and have never seen weather like this during the sailing season.

On a positive note, it was lovely to be able to get off Paw Paw today after the hotel reopened the dinghy dock. We went for a walk to Marae Anini and stopped in at the little grocery store on our return. We think we must have been the most interesting customers the owner has seen in days.

Slowly, but surely people are starting to come out of hibernation and life is returning to normal as gardens were racked to lift debris, children played on the beach and folks were out on paddleboards or outriggers. Even Roy decided he's having a barbecue onboard, even if the wind is still gusty to 20 Kts from time to time - Once a boer, always a boer!
