Paw Paw - Log Day 150: "There and Back to See How Far It Was"

We were up early this morning to check the weather and make our decision on whether or not tp accompany Nina to Port du Bourayne for a more sheltered anchorage with more bad weather approaching. Well, we essentially just "went there and back to see how far it was" because our original information and experience hadn't change. While Nina picked up the only mooring ball in the anchorage, we scouted every part of the bay that could possibly be viable and still concluded that there was no decent place to anchor, given the depths. For due diligence, we also reconsidered the mooring balls just outside the bay, which we had used previously in calmer weather, but decided against that as well, given the really strong and confused currents. So, we left Nina alone in Port du Bourayne and returned to Baie D'Avea where we weathered the first storm and await the next one. Albeit a tad uncomfortable, we know that we have good holding, good depth and plenty of swing room. We're sheltered from the huge swell with the barrier reef and the very wide sandbank that surrounds the anchorage, as well as being somewhat protected from the wind by the hills once the direction turns ESE / E as forecasted. Fortunately we are in the company of quite a few yachts which arrived while we were gone and continued to arrive throughout the day. To keep ourselves amused we have access to wifi, the hotel and a few restaurants nearby. Roy started the ball rolling by baking today, while Elaine caught up on some chores.

On another note, it appears a communications breakdown as well as a technical problem caused Paw Paw to disappear from the WARC radar. This is in the process of being rectified and we should be back on their website and blogs. For our position, however, you will have to access our own website.
