Isabel - Day 9 - Fishhh

Tuesday 12 Noon 1/12/2105
19 06 N 41 33 W *- daily run circa 160 miles* - 1160 distance to
St Lucia * = ish see below

So yesterday afternoon it all went a bit "Pete Tong". Shortly after emailing
off the blog to my daughter Julia who copies all and adds to Facebook the
alarms start beeping at the chart table and at the twin wheel consoles on
deck. Skipper James replies with much button pressing and cries of "bother"
and soon establishes Mr Raymarine is the key offender in particular GPS
signal but before long it is cycling error messages from everything and we
are hand steering with no auto pilot. While James is in full flow to fix it
including emailing the jolly helpful chaps at Oyster Yachts the fishing
line starts ratcheting too. Great timing !
Nick is quick the grab the rod and ascertain we have a bite immediately
followed by "Fish is mine" cry from Peter awakened from his aft deck bean
bag slumber. Peter takes the rod does a couple of heave wind, heave wind
before declaring it's hard work and hands it back to Nick to haul in the
beautiful 6-8 kg Mahi Mahi full team work is required to get it on deck
(There is no Peter in Team) once sorted he takes the fish for the wonderful
photo attached (photo credit Paul B) including "ladies" a glimpse of the
mincy gingham shorts...hmmm. Photo done fish returned to Nick and James to
skin and gut pre dinner - 45 minute job.

So the night was under engine, moonlight and hand steering. By noon today
James has isolated half the instruments and we have pilot and GPS up and
running and this afternoon the wind has filled in the genneker is back up.
We are past halfway and this time tomorrow should be less than a 1000 miles
to go.
Bye for now

Mike
