Shelena - 11th November and a solid start on our ARC + adventure.

The sea sickness status remains positive. Helen and Kathryn have been
careful not to stay in the galley or below for any longer than is needed.
The patches truly seem to work. Jules is not prone to sea sickness, so far
as he knows, Petri never gets sickness and me, just occasionally; but
absolutely no problems to date.

We started well with brisk E or ENE winds at 20 knots which was great with
190 Nm under our hull in the first 24 hours. That has been followed by
lighter winds and we are now sailing more sedately. Our attempt to hoist the
cruising chute turned into drama as the sail touched water as it was opening
with the result it has been destroyed and we have no spinnaker. A shame; but
that's sailing.

We turned to fishing. My kit was bought as a birthday treat with help from
Andy, Into the Blue, Petri, Jules and myself who simply paid over the money
after following advice from the aforementioned. The rod and reel assembled
and it was only the need to attach the Leader wire. Andy claimed in the shop
that was easy. Just loop the wire and crimp it on. OK. Problem is that sure
as I was that I had a crimper aboard, I could not recall its location. I
felt certain I had one. But was my mind actually recalling the item in my
workshop at home? The mind can play tricks and as a search of the lazarette
and the tool locker did not produce a result doubt was creeping up fast.
Inspiration comes of course. The tools were originally stored in the third
cabin sole locker. Which was now occupied by water. Is it possible that the
moist important item in the universe was still in the cabin bilge? Sure
enough, pushed out of sight was a Cuban cigar wooden box. No longer securing
the cigars but a crimper! Hallelujah! It's the little things in life that
count. Without this item our unsuspecting tuna that bite our hook will
simply bite the line and get free. The line is now prepared, the rod proudly
on starboard aft rail in its shiny new rod holder. Yesterday the line was
out for only an hour before darkness fell. Not wishing to wrestle fish at
night the line was brought in. Watch this space for our fishing conquests;
or not as the case may be.

Bye the way, thanks for your birthday wishes, Julia and David and to Pat and
others for their cards,

Phil
