Luna Quest - Monday, 16th March, 2015

Noon Position: 8.23S 116.07W

Daily run: 127 miles

Last night’s sailing experience was one of the more frustrating ones to date. There was either too much or too little wind or its direction was wrong and it rained off and on. The sea was turbulent and the waves unpredictable. The banging and the crashing of the genoa pained us to the core knowing that the wear and tear was disproportionately large - and there is a long way to go... At night I tend to go into the cockpit to do what I can to quieten things down with not much on. If it rains, my skin gets a wash, but my clothes remain dry when I go back in again. The thought of wet clothes in a wet environment is not appealing. Sometimes, it is quite chilly in the wind and rain. This morning we decided to change the sail configuration and pole the genoa out to port. We are now goose winged (i.e. main sail out to starboard and genoa out to port held in position by a pole). Our speed has improved and the boat’s movement is gentler. The wind is more east today keeping the boat on a course just south of west. Let’s hope the wind stays like that.

Eric
