Luna Quest - Saturday, 14th March, 2015

Noon Position: 7.37S 111.42W

Daily run: 123 miles

The daily roll call showed that LUNA QUEST had made least progress in the last 24 hours, which was not surprising as we had 3 reefs in the mainsail and several rolls in the genoa, while wind speeds never exceeded 23 knots. I have therefore taken two reefs out and unrolled the genoa, which has improved our speed to over 6 knots. Not that we are in a hurry, but there is an underlying feeling of competition and nobody wants to arrive last, so we are competing with the last three boats not to trail the other two, although by rights LUNA QUEST ought to be last, as she is the smallest in the fleet by several feet.

Every morning the sun rises over the stern of LUNA QUEST, passes directly overhead and sets over the bows in a sky usually very red on the western horizon. The sun sinks fast and any silver lining of the clouds soon evaporates. I think it will need a special lens to capture the beauty of it.

Please be reminded that you can follow the progress of  LUNA QUEST and the other World ARC participants on a website called Yellowbrick. My blog is also viewable on the website of the World Cruising Club.
