Scarlet Oyster - Blog 29/11

Still sun shining on Scarlet! We are now proceeding with our big white asymmetric spi and we are still maintaining the lead. We have put it up a bit late and this cost us 3nm. It may seem a very short distance if compared to the total we have to go, but the race is very tight and our opponents are very close to us; the concentration must be maintained high at all the times, especially at night when is harder to sail the boat with no reference in the sky. So far we didn't have many nights with a clear sky, and yesterday was one of those nights where the helmsman has to rely on instrumentation only.

Event of the day: the crew of Scarlet managed to block the toilet piping. The crew took this incident very seriously because the idea of using a bucket for the following day was not very appealing... Finally the unpleasant issue has been resolved at the light of the sunset. I leave the details of this operation to the imagination of the readers.

Today Ross is cooking a "big lunch"! We are going to have macaroni with cheese. Most of the first of the two hams is almost gone; it now sits on a professional frame and Ebbe is cutting bits for the crew.

Last good news: since the water-maker works fine the skipper decided today the crew can experience the luxury of a refreshing shower. Cy was first!

All for now from Scarlet and Marco!
