Sorry for not giving my crew time to write in the blog, however we are all
safe and sound.
Today Jan woke Carina for urgent attention. Our genua haleyard broke and we
needed to secure the genau. Hard job with northernly winds around 30 kts, swell
and wave heights 7 to 8 m, but they made it. Until today the genau has been the
only sail, we have been using, but speed up to 9 kts, even with reef – sounds
crazy/feels good.
Our current sail setting mizzen and main sail in 2 reef gives us a
speed around 5 kts wind 27 kts.
The commander is sleeping. His done a great job. Don’t underestimate a young
man.
The weather the last days has been a challenge, but we got the table back
in place, the cock has been busy in the pantry, not as much as she would have
wanted to, but when we bend to the northern wind it is not possibly to get a
firm hold in anything. And the rule 1 hand for the boat, 1 hand for you do not
comply with cocking.
Guess you all thought my crew was enjoying the sun and sea – till now, no
bikini has been out, as the temperature still is low and the sun tends to hide
behind clouds giving us some rain showers. But apart from the sun they do enjoy
the great Atlantic sea taking her turns with the winds, creating the most
fantastic “music” and we are dancing the swells and waves.
Night time is light time. Out here where you have no land-lights to
disturb, you can see so many starts and planets, and them in contrast to the
sea, you should come and have a look! Just love sitting on deck on night
watches, looking at that and then relaxing with a book on the iPad, and thinking
about life.
We have made the first quarter of the trip (2030 nm to go), so with all the
work done, the captain has asked the cock to make a nice Saturday dinner and
make an exception, the crew may have a glass of wine.
Pictures will be posted when we arrive St. Lucia.
And we shall be better giving a daily note.
On behalf of Louise,
Carina
