Winedown - Open Water day 3

So we have it on record we’ll go back to the start; Winedown was first in our class to cross over the start line, thanks to the expert racing and driving skills of crew memeber Tim Berchard. Today, we are currently in the middle of the pack, so still in the hunt. First night out was COLD and breezy, we woke to the increasingly warmer air of the gulf stream and carried a steady breeze most of day 2 averaging 7 to 7.5 knots. Today is very light, flukey air. We are racers but we want to get there within a reasonable time frame so we opted to turn on the motor. We have 1,011 nautical miles to go. Highpoint of the trip so far was catching our first fish, a beautifully green colored Mahi Mahi, which Dave filleted for us and fried up for lunch! If I could describe a perfect blue, it would be this color. When we hauled up a bucket to rinse off the fish, it was crystal clear. Surrounded on all sides by salt air and sea makes you feel very small and in awe of the vastness around you and the power of the sea. We are running three hour watches. I have the 6-9 watch. Surprisingly you get into a routine and time has gone rather quickly. I am chief cook aboard. I do miss my girlfriends as there is a lot of testosterone aboard but everyone is considerate. Tim is pouring me some coffee as I write this. :) and Dave likes to do the cleanup duties. He insists, so I comply. Dale is busy being captain, plotting our course and chief communications officer. Furtunatly as I said before we have a lot of experience on board with Dave Grove and Tim so it has been a collaborative working crew. I guess thats all for now, going to work on lunch so we don’t have a mutiny.
