Folie a Deux - Is it worth it?

I could go on for hours complaining about how difficult, strenuous, and exhausting a trip around the world can be, especially for a 16 year old like myself. For instance I can never escape my parents and sister, or most of the friends I have made on this trip have been 20 or so years older than me, that I left my high school “social life” behind, or even that I don’t get to take showers as often as I used to.

I could, however go on for even longer naming things that, individually, would make all of the negative aspects of this trip obsolete. I have been handed the chance of a lifetime, something most people will work their whole lives to achieve, at age 16. I have visited places unmatched in their beauty with cultures equally unique, I have met amazing people from all walks of life and learned something new from almost each and every one. Most of it you just can’t experience in a suburb.

People say to me, “Brian, you have no idea how lucky you are…” well it’s not completely true. I have SOME idea, I just keep getting surprised with each place we visit. Plus I know that after I set foot on land again I will continue to be surprised for years and years to come. I have accumulated countless memories, experiences and stories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

But am I happy all the time? Of course not, this is not a lifestyle I could cope with for years on end, and I miss the easy life I had before. So is it worth it? The seemingly endless passages? The odd hours of sleep some nights? Absolutely, nothing worthwhile is ever easy.
