American Spirit II - Day 175; New Crew Arrive and a Sunset Dinner Cruise; Sunday, June 29, 2014

4:50 AM up. Naudi, my driver, picked me up at 5:20 AM. At the airport at 5:40 AM. Angela and Chet made it to the waiting area by 6:30 AM. They had been delayed because one of the two checked bags didn't make the plane in time; and will be put on the same flight arriving Monday. Naudi will pick that bag up because we will be rafting all day Monday. We made it to the boat around 7:15 AM.

After putting their things away, Chet took a nap for awhile while Angie put on her swim suit and read in the cockpit. I unloaded the parts bag she brought with her, which contained an ICOM VHF radio; Sweet and Low; Liquid Crystal drink mix; copies of insurance documents; coffee creamer; 6 Impellers for the generator; binnacle light bulbs; miscellaneous generator parts; prescription drugs and extreme cleaning solutions for dealing with infections.

Breakfast at 9:30 AM for Joel and myself (Angela and Chet had eaten on the plane). Eggs, cut up potatoes from last night's dinner, breakfast sausage and bread.

During the day the rally boat Hebe ended up at a mooring next to us. Unfortunately, Andrew and Jane had departed suddenly for the UK due to a medical emergency involving a close family member; and were unable to say goodbye. We'll miss them. Harry and Immo will tend to the boat until they return.

At 3:00 PM we all headed into shore for showers; and at 4:45 PM we boarded a boat for a dinner cruise, which left at 5:00 PM. The boat was rated to carry 250 passengers, but tonight there were only 12 of us. Needless to say, we got first class service! Dinner, served buffet style, consisted of champagne, mahi mahi, sirloin, baked potato, sweet potato, rolls, green beans, salad; and banana pudding, chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream for dessert.

I had everyone on the boat looking at the sunset for a green flash; however, the sun at the last instant set behind an island so there was no green flash.

Besides dinner, the crew on the boat put on a show consisting of male warriors doing their Fijian war dances. Passengers were encouraged to participate, and most did. The names of the participants will not be released in this log (I won't tell anyone Joel and Chet).

We were back at the dock just before 8:00 PM; and back on our boat 10 minutes later.

Lights out at 9:00 PM as we're getting up before sunrise tomorrow to go rafting in the mountains.
