Karhammel IV - News from Karhammel IV

News from Karhammel IV, Thursday December 2019 19th :

Our last –at sea, Las Palmas to Santa Lucia- message

About the broken jib : After 12 hours sewing, 132 holes in the ropes+head sail, 792 knots, the reparations allow the jib to work : grey plumber tape over the 6 sewed ropes & 12 jib weaknesses over the crema-white sail allow an original, excentric look, indeed, J J.

Strong winds, 30-33 knots are our daily life, with a rough sea – 4 to 6 m, 4 to 6s, « crossed swells ». Main issue is that Karhammel IV is badly rolling, everything is flying across the cabin, including the crew members.

Our hydrovane, Jean-Louis is working fine & beautifully : yesterday morning, his previous somehow neurastenic face welcome us completely illuminated with red nose –we immediateay checked but neither the levels of whisky nor the level of rum bottles had changed- smile, blue eyes, J

Total of lost time compared to our expectations is roughly estimated at 3 days
  • · due to a « Mini transat » abandonned dismasted sailing somewhere on our way : 6 hours to round her suspected position.
  • · due to our damaged jib, fixing the broken clew while using our mainsail only or our small storm jib : 1 day
  • · due to very weak winds between the Canary Islands and Cape Verde : 1,5 days. Our 8 T boat is heavy !

Today at 08.00 UTC, we were at 60 NM from Santa Lucia – ARC dixit-, Lubilu III sailing boat’s position in advance with 40 nm NM. And Christine & Bruno are enjoying their 40 wedding anniversary J

Happy Christmas, Frohe Weihnachten, Joyeuses fêtes
