Enigma - Day 1 - Cracking sailing Gromit !

Day 1 - Cracking sailing Gromit !

What a beautiful day for sailing ! Sunny, flat sea and 10-12 knots of wind. We departed Mindelo with our genoa and mainsail flying spirits high. The Canal de Sao Vincente was blue and flat apart from the surface ripples one expects on days like these. We started conservatively and the discussion quickly moved onto when to unfurl our Simbo rig. The wind was about 120 degrees - a broad reach - so we thought we'd give it a go with the windward clew polled out.

As ever we started to catch up on the fleet and leave the boats behind us. Polled out the Simbo sail was stable and performed well giving us 5.5 kts in 7 kts of wind. As a friend of mine would say, " cracking sailing Gromit".

The day just got better. Lunch was a Lamb wrap with salad. Well done Allan - happy crew. And as if life couldn't get any better, Diane offered a slice of fruit cake the size of a small house brick - bliss !

As we head for the evening we are all happy, well fed and looking forward to our adventure. We've caught up on most of the fleet are are settling down to some Simbo powered downwind sailing.
