Paw Paw - Log Day 182: Six Months Ago Today

Six months ago today we set sail on this amazing adventure from St Lucia with the World ARC and to mark the occasion we have had one of our best sails since leaving Panama: Sunny blue skies dotted with fair weather cumulus, 5-7 Ft seas, 13-18 Kts of wind and a 0.5 Kt current with us.

While the rest of the fleet are making their way to Vanuatu, a stop we are definitely looking forward to next year, we are underway to Surwarrow, another destination we are looking forward to seeing.

With 122NM to go and the "Chicken Chute" still flying, we are averaging 7.5 Kts and expect to make landfall tomorrow afternoon. The wind is forecasted to lighten though at some point tomorrow which means we'll have to motorsail so as not to spend another night at sea.

Roy tried his hand at fishing today, but had no luck. We have a feeling this is attributed to the illegal Chinese fishing vessels we've encountered in the area. They keep their lights and AISs off so as not to be seen and will only switch everything on if they find themselves directly in our path so that we can then see them while they make a beeline to get out of our way - Ridiculous and certainly makes for interesting night watches!
