It was another early start to get ashore to use our data service at the Post Office so that Roy could get some banking done which he was unable to do using the wifi in Baie D'Avea. Elaine used the opportunity to Facetime Brooke and William which certainly started the day off on a good foot. Then we had to get some provisioning before heading back to Paw Paw to weigh anchor and set sail for Raiatea and Tahaa.
With 15 to 20 Kts of wind it was lovely to be sailing again instead of motoring. We had, however, forgotten about our "good friend", the South Pacific swell which made for a rather rolly passage and an interesting entrance through Passe Teavapiti, the access through the barrier reef to the lagoon at Uturoa, the main town on Raiatea. Once inside we had time to enjoy the very pretty scenary before making a beeline for Baie Haamene, Tahaa, which is considered a hurricane hole, to get settled before the sun dropped behind the mountains.
After snaking our way through the very long bay, we eventually arrived at a rather strange looking place, where we picked up a mooring ball and are the only occupied yacht here tonight. We are very intrigued at what we might find tomorrow when we head to shore to explore. Even though the guide indicates the various buildings represent those of a village, it looks more like a prison or a military camp.
Regardless, we're just thankful that decent weather has arrived and we can enjoy another island.
