Luna Quest - Saturday, September 5th, 2015

Noon Position: 11.16S 122.50E

Daily run: 156 logged miles

We have been running the engine since 2am Friday morning and still have not reached a sea area where the wind will fill the sails. Each morning and evening we fill the diesel tank from one of our 8 jerrycans stowed on deck. One jerrycan holds 20ltrs and feeds 12 hours of motoring. We have 4 full ones left and a diesel tank 3/4 full. We should be able to reach Lombok if we can sail a couple of days without using the engine: 450 miles to go.

We spotted an Indonesian fishing boat last night without any lights or AIS on. The Australian Border Control had warned us against illegal fishing by the Indonesians in their territorial waters and had given us a plasticised card showing the kind of craft we might encounter. It was just the kind of fishing vessel we could expect, but found it was operating its nets just outside Australian waters. We employed the radar and set a guard alarm around Luna Quest in case we might encounter another one, but none were spotted.

The days continue bright, hot and windless and other than last night when a slight fog obscured our vision, the visibility at night is good especially when the moon comes out.
