Free Spirit - Log 13: 23 May 2015

It is with great regret that I have to announce that there is a thief  on board. The following notice has been posted on the refrigerator door:

NOTICE:

ANYONE CAUGHT STEALING THE CAPTAIN'S CHOCOLATE WILL BE KEEL-HAULED

You might consider keel-hauling, which was abolished by the Admiralty in the mid-eighteenth century, rather severe, but given the heinous nature of the crime I personally consider this to be an entirely appropriate punishment. I suspect the young whipper-snapper and am watching him very carefully.

To other things: Today the material that blocked the main outlet pipe from the holding tank migrated to become lodged in the macerator pump. So, another hour or two was spent in the bilges, once more dismantling the pump and disimpacting it by hand. The loos are working extremely well and smelling sweet.

There is to be a change in the weather. After sailing comfortably on a broad reach at about 6 knots all day,the wind has dropped away this evening and is predicted to come from the north by tonight. There is more cloud about and tomorrow we will probably have to contend with a headwind. Although annoying in respect of delaying progress to our destination, the calm conditions did at least enhance our enjoyment of dinner this evening- civ of tuna followed by tuna steaks.

Incidentally, we crossed the 60 degree longitude line yesterday, so today we put the boat's time forward by one hour. Tangible evidence that we are actually getting somewhere! Just 1342nm to go to the Azores.

Finally, I would like to point out to all of you out there who are reading these blogs that we do not have the means aboard to access the World Cruising Club website ourselves. Therefore, please email any comments you wish to make about the happening aboard Free Spirit to [email protected] in addition to posting them on the website.
