Helen - Day 4 for Ed

140 miles without using the engine is OK for these lightish winds but we need to pick up speed soon.

Steering the boat at night is called a "watch" which is nothing to do with a Rolex! According to the captain a night watch can be very beautiful if the stars are out or very frustrating if the weather is against you.

Last night I joined the captain for a frustrating watch!

We saw some clouds on the radar coming our way and as they did the wind stopped. The sails banged and clattered for a while until the captain decided to put them away and start the engine.

The deluge of rain came and we both got wet. Five minutes later the rain stopped, the wind returned and the captain had to put the sails out again.

What happened 15 minutes later? More clouds!

Today is Sunday so we had bacon rolls with avocado for lunch and a roast chicken dinner. Yum.

This afternoon the linear drive on the autopilot failed and the engineering department spent the afternoon in the Laz ( a cupboard at the back of the boat) installing the spare.

I stood guard over contents of the Laz and it was beers all round when we had finished.

Ed the Iguana,
On the way to the Galapogos
