Exocet Strike - progress 13-14th January 2014

Great progress overnight, we carried two reefs and full Genoa all night, poled out to port, meaning we had reduced mainsail area, but our full Genoa on the other side as with a spinnaker. Often seeing 8 and 9 knots over the ground, helped by some positive current, the moon was out as well, not too many clouds. Much better than the day had been. However by this morning the wind was dropping and we shook out both reefs so now have full sail area up. The wind is light though so slow progress made worse by the current now against us most of the day. It is sunny and much warmer than yesterday!
As I type this, at 1700 Local time, the wind is maybe picking up a bit,nth at will help our progress to St Helena. We are approx one third of the way there.
Kept in touch via the SSB with both boats around us and way further afield. Nice to know others are out there.
Every few hours we pick up a ship on our AIS, a device which helps us to see them and be seen by them. Great when we see ships since the device is programmed by the, to say what their destination is, a lot for Singapore!
Next update tomorrow folks, and do remember to check out our tracker my.yb.tl/exocetstrike, or look on the world arc website for details of how to check the other boats in our fleet, and the new fleet that has just set out from St Lucia!
John
