Albatross - Nov 20 - Sailing Off!!

Nov 20 - Sailing Off!!

7:30 pm. First night at sea. We started the trip at 1.30 pm, today November 20.

On board for this leg of the trip we have James Benjamin, Lolo. Cabaille, Kevin Foote, Billy Willman, Chuck Kuehn, and myself, Captain Fernando Assens!

We just finished dinner, Spanish potato omelette and "empanadillas", a goodbye present from captain Marta Nuñez and her boyfriend Odin. They did a fantastic job watching Albatross during the two months she was moored at Las Palmas. Thanks Marta and Odin!!

So far we are having incredibly nice wind. 11-15 knots, from the NE (45-55°). We are heading south at 6-7 knots of speed 95-105° flying our Asymmetrical Spinnaker. Our ideal course will be 112, but we are unable to point to it.

For this leg we are following a "4 hours on-8 hours off" shift, and in the off hours we cook, clean, fix a number of minor things, and debate the best route to take.

This year the weather is going to be tricky. We expect light winds to develop due to a low pressure front south of the Great Circle Route. We have hired a weather service, Commander, to give us regular weather updates and help us find the best route to St Lucia.
