Midnight Wanderer - Day 6 -Wednesday

(This is Day 6, not Day 5!)

It was a day that augured well, but hit rock bottom before matters were retrieved by food and drink.

The boat inside us left at 0725, and we executed a great manoeuvre using stern landline and bow thruster. However, the warp trailed in the water and was sucked in to the bow thruster, causing it to stop. The language was pretty rich. Called the Harbour Master and agreed a price for the dive team to attend. Trouble was that Chinese whispers prevailed and the message was that the skipper of Midnight Wanderer was designated Mr Nasty as I wanted the dive team but wouldn't pay! Bit of a delay and the Harbour Master turned up ready to reconcile Mr Nasty! We spent some time explaining our situation and with his intervention the dive team turned up, I paid, we got our line back intact and a photograph, taken by the diver showing our propellor had lost a blade and therefore was US. It transpired that the actual Mr Nasty was someone else, and I was Mr Nice all along. One member of the crew felt very guilty, but hey, accidents happen and no one died! We missed the bus trip, and instead ordered a new propellor, anode and fuse from Osmotech which will be with us Tuesday. I just now need to organise a lift out.
Amongst the crew high emotions, which took a while to equalise. Off to a cafe to imbibe strong coffee and a bacon butty.

We spent the afternoon on a 71 bus to the German Hospital, a most depressing place, and a long wait to get the bus back due to misinformation. Not happy! And why is it that when you present Bank of England notes, they always give you back their Monopoly money? Given that at the skippers' briefing we are no longer going to St. Helier, you would be advised to get rid of the funny money in Braye.

The day was saved with the arrival of Anne of Wight (Simon and Becks) and a glorious dinner in Mora, with probably too much wine. Hell, you only live once.

Tomorrow, we assess the options available to us - the prospect of sitting on a buoy does not appeal so we may head for Cherbourg. Decisions, decisions!

As I close, tea is not a reasonable option, but water, water is a must!

More anon.
