Bubsa - Bubsa's Journey Begins

Bubsa set off from Lymington on Thursday 18th August 2016 heading for Gosport and Haslar Marina. A gentle sail with up through the Solent, the sun shinning brightly we were lucky to spot The GB Americas Cup Boat fly by in training. What a fabulous sight.

To welcome us into Haslar Marina, high above us against a blue sky two Spitfires flew over….. our excitement rising with the prospect of our pending journey.

How quickly things can change, waking up on Friday to rain and dull skies. Our spirits however were not dampened despite the change in weather as we ventured out into Gosport to sample the various retail outlets of Poundland, Pound Stretchers and even a Pound World.

Ladened down with those all important items that could be somehow useful, we returned to the boat. With the rain still pounding on the decks we decided it was time to learn a new Game “Monopoly Deal.” The youngest member of the crew of course picked it up the fastest and yes we were all duly thrashed by Hope.

With a change in the timetable due to the unseasonal weather we planned what we would do on Saturday. Tim and Phil decided instead of joining Linda Hope and myself in a trip to Gunwarf Quays for a bit of retail therapy they would go to Fratton Park to watch Portsmouth against Colchester United… what a top game and one they both enjoyed with Portsmouth winning 2-0.

After our retail therapy we returned to the boat and whilst watching the Olympics I decided to teach myself a new knot. A Turk’s Head and soon found myself making Napkin Rings for the boat… (orders can be taken.)

Sunday and the call to all Bakers had gone out and we were all soon doing a trolley dash around Morrison’s for ingredients for the big event. 3.30pm and everyone soon arrived down on H pontoon with an amazing array of cakes, biscuits, crispy cakes, and a really tasty loaf of bread that had a real surprise in the middle… it was quite delicious.

Sadly due to the weather Philip and I have had to leave Bubsa for the Cherbourg leg but wish them and all the other Boats and their Crews a safe passage and look forward to rejoining in the Channel Islands in a few days time.
