Paw Paw - Log Day 211: Excellent Provisioning at Reasonable Prices

Until today we have been shopping at the smaller supermarkets for the few odds and ends that we've needed in the way of groceries, but today we decided to take a short taxi ride to the Fresh Produce Market as well as explore the nearby larger supermarkets. We were amazed at the range of products, including wines from all over the world, as well as the freshly baked goods like cornish pasties, sausage rolls and various other filled pies, not to mention the cream donuts, cakes and range of breads.

The Fresh Produce Market was packet with all sorts of locally grown fruit and vegetables, from fresh turmeric and ginger to tangerines and everything else in-between. We opted for some breadfruit and bok choy to accompany our lamb chops for dinner and, of course a South African Shiraz. Breadfruit can be cooked in a variety of ways, but we decided to make "chips" which ended up similar to a crispy roast potato, only tastier.

None of the cruising guides we'd read about Samoa mentioned the availability of such excellent provisioning at very reasonable prices. Had we known we definitely would not have stocked up in French Polynesia the way we did at considerable extra expense. Oh well, lessons learnt!

This afternoon we enjoyed a visit to the Legends Café where we discovered our new favourite cool drink made from fresh tumeric and ginger and served with plenty of ice. It's not only delicious, but very healthy. I guess we'll be making another trip to the Fresh Produce Market tomorrow.
