Ximera - Leg 2, Log Day 10 – Mellowing out



 

We don’t have a whole lot to report since our last post. The wind has been low, generally 5-10 knots, so we have alternately motored, sailed, and motor-sailed. We have 3ish days to go before this, the longest leg of our crossing, is finished and we can hear the song of the Azorean sirens and enjoy their delicious steaks and wines.

 

A brief round up of happenings on board: Tatjana and Simon sent a message in a bottle of Chilean Chardonnay (sans Chardonnay, with hand-written message). We’ve seen a ton of porpoises playfully jumping around the bow and I can assure you they are cute little buggers. Soft shackles (shackles made of line) fabricated on the premises by Will and Simon are now holding the gennaker to the boat with utmost aplomb. The food has been great, but…

 

Actually, we do have some very, very grave news of the utmost importance that is worrying us to the point of severe stomach ulcers … we HAVE RUN OUT OF GARLIC!!!!! This is a huge problem as garlic is the basis of all of our meals. With the garlic gone, it won’t be long before we turn on each other and the entire trip turns into a Darwinian experiment of epic proportions, a la reality TV shows involving catalogue models on desert islands eating bowls of worms in their quest for B-movie fame. May the great Poseidon show mercy on us and send an enormous garlic fish to our fallow fishhooks.
