Starblazer - 23/01/2016 –Yet more of the same

Yes, we had similar winds, both in strength and direction though we did
manage to steer much closer to our desired course for much of the day. The
seas are still relatively flat with the odd bit of rock and roll when you
least expect it. My wine glass flew across the cockpit table delivering its
contents over the table, the cockpit and John! We have still had no action
on the fishing front, other than setting the line in the morning and
retrieving it after dusk.

On a positive note I did finish piecing the Union flag together, today’s job
is to cut out the other pieces of red and join it all together, add a line
to the hoist and deploy it. I also did some washing which dried on the line
strung across the arch so it was quite a productive day.

You may wonder what John does all day. (He’ll probably edit this!) So far
we have had no more serious breakages for him to problem solve. The metal
loop on one of the poles which holds the uphaul line pulled out, the halyard
swung about wildly but John caught it and tied it down. The sail is doing a
good job of holding the pole up, we’ll just have to be careful when we roll
the sail away. His main daily task is to transfer petrol from the 25 litre
cans on deck into two 2 litre milk bottles. Each 2 litres will power the
little Honda generator for about 31/2 hours to charge the batteries. We
have made water but the unit is overheating so John is limiting it to about
an hour every now and then. We still have one full tank so water is not an
issue.

Yesterday’s dinner was Butter Chicken Makhani using a spice mix I bought on
Saint Helena. It was rather hot so I’ll back off the spice mix next time,
however it was very tasty and I had all the ingredients. It wasn’t exactly
diet friendly with butter, cream, coconut milk and some whole milk ‘turned’
with a little lemon juice. Never mind, we will not be eating such rich food
very often!

On a sad note, our thoughts are with our grandchildren, Zack, Liam and
Chloe, their Auntie Amelia and their grandfather who attended their
grandmother’s funeral yesterday. It is at times like this that we feel so
far from home.
