Lea - Log Day 1/Counting from the back

LEA

November 9th/07:29 UTC

It’s the 8th of November (finally!), and the time is starting to close up on 13:00 UTC. As we approach the area of the startline, numerous boats are already cruising back and forward in the area, and the sight of all our new ARC+ friends ready to set sail is just beautiful. As the start sign goes off, our pulse is high, and we’re all smiles because we’re finally on our way to Cape Verde. Already during the first hour we run in to some trouble with our main sail – the shackles on the bottom pop out, and we have to turn around and go up against the wind to fix the problem. Meanwhile, we’re seeing how the ARC-fleet is disappering from us.. We manage to fix the problem, but we soon realize how far behind we are. With dolphins (literally) everywhere, and swordfish taking high jumps right next to our boat, we cheer ourselves up by thinking that if we count from the back, we’re actually in 2rd place! Which isn’t too bad. Right?

The rest of the first day we have a great time enjoying the sea, and are all happy we’re finally on our way. With the strong wind we’re able to hold a 9kts speed, and when the night comes we decide to only use our main sail, which gives us a comfortable night – and speed. As it’s getting dark, we sail past another ARC boat, and everyone is cheering, because we’re finally in last-third-place!
