Widago - English Channel @ Night

With the ARC Baltic Rally literally in our wake, WIDAGO now makes haste towards the UK. And just time - I was in a near panic earlier today at teatime only to find we were in fact out of English Tea. Luckily we are scheduled to arrive in Brighton prior to our next afternoon delight - hopefully we will be treated to a proper English teatime...crumpets, scones, clotted cream (hmmmm), and obviously a larger pair of stretch pants for yours truly.

Before I get into any more details of this particular journey, I wanted to give a huge thank you to Joel & Cecelia with World Cruising Club for leading our family through a fantastic adventure in the Baltic Sea. Always smiling, constantly corralling, these folks wrangled 19 vessels and their crews with grace, style, and patience. We miss our morning VHF broadcasts from Joel - but fear not, as Ahab is currently continuing correspondence with Blonde Moment & Crew via SSB chats. That is certainly one of great benefits of participating in a sailing a rally - it's never really over. We have been trailing and listening out for a fellow rally-mates also heading to the UK, sharing weather, routing strategies, and just hearing a familiar voice.

As I write, we are currently working our way down the EC as quickly as possible. There has been talk amongst the fleet of perilous winds and weather arriving next week, so Ahab has lit both engines, plus sails, and has WIDAGO hauling the mail to avoid bad weather. Right now, knock on wood, winds are only 15kts true on our beam, with calm seas. However, we are expecting, of course during my 23:00-0300 mid watch, to see 25 true as we play Frogger across the Straights of Dover. So far, so good, but the alarm on my barometer just went off, as the pressure takes its expected nosedive. Visibility since leaving Kiel Canal has cleared up from that spooky socked morning - which on a side note worked out great - found a fantastic bakery during our delay. Upon arriving back in saltier waters, we have reunited with our dolphin friends and had a spectacular show of bioluminescent streams.
