Gozwoz - Day 9 from Bermuda

A celebratory glass (or two) of wine and a night of motoring required to avoid an area of easterly wind resulted in a good night's sleep for all, which left the crew fresh and theoretically in need of new adventures. The motoring has, however, brought us into the northern part of the Azores high where light winds prevail and in consequence it has been necessary to plan the future course with care. In his graciousness Our Great Leader has permitted the crew to consider the latest GRIB files he has downloaded via the SSB. Advice has also been received from Clive Sparkes in St Maarten and Harald on Sophie. The decision has been taken to continue motor-sailing on a course of 75 degrees true of thereabouts with a view to meeting a north-westerly wind in three days. The alternative would have been to motor north for in excess of 300 miles to meet what appears to be a relatively light westerly wind. Following our calculations after filling the diesel tank from jerry cans we should have ample fuel for the motoring. If needed we may have to call in at Flores, about 100 miles west of Horta, to pick up fuel.
Today has been sunny with little wind and a calm sea, conditions which are likely to continue until we reach the north-westerly.
The Bosun has been using his head again, this time on the cockpit locker while looking for the fuel funnel. He has been reminded of the adage "One hand for yourself and one for the bat". In reality leading with anything rather than his head would be a help. Needless to say he claims it was the Navigator's fault.
Roger needed a dance today and was seen shuffling to "I saw her standing there" and "Little Red Roster" played on OGL's Bluetooth speaker.
Nature notes: We had a visit from a pod, perhaps two, of dolphins. They were in excellent form with exuberant high jumping. Later the Bosun spotted three whales following our course at about 300 metres. They were low in the water and, apart from spouting, were inactive.
Poignant footnote: It is OGL's wedding anniversary today. He had planned to phone his wife on the sat phone but the technology beat him. The whole crew is prepared to testify that he tried. Happy Anniversary darling!
