We have passed the halfway mark after a decent last 24 hour run. Simon
made some pikelets to celebrate (drop scones for those not in the know) and very
nice they were too.
At 0230 this morning a
very nice American chap called Bob from Sojourn called us up on the VHF for a
chat as you do at 0230 in the morning, he was just 2nm off our port side, small
world, anyway we assumed that he had not altered his watch from America western
seaboard time hence the timing of his call however some of the sleeping crew
cant wait to be introduced, they seem to think Bob is going to buy them a
beer?!
Other sea life we have
seen Storm Petrel remind me of swallows swooping for insects with a similar
flight and size, Dolphins always a pleasure as they swim around ANIKA and look
up straight into your eye with a smile and Flying Fish, these little creatures
approximately 30cm long really are delightful to watch and rival the Puffin as
my favourite birds they take off with a flick of the tail and the twin wings
each side wing them over 100ft without landing which they do invariably by
running into the back of a wave before immediately taking off again in a
completely different direction, and other times simply flying like a skimming
stone really funny to watch but sadly impossible to film. We occasionally find
the little creatures on deck in the mornings stranded along with small
squid.
One of the more bizarre
moments is sitting on the foredeck in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean making a
telephone call to my wife just as easily as if I was in England, with emails
quite a normal routine but be brief they cost more than BT charge for a local
call!!!!
Anyway the sun is out so
I must go and lay in it hope the weather at home is sunny, air temperature 30 deg C and water temp.
28.2 deg C (yes really)
