Vagaris - Trades Description Act

Well, we're in the trades but they're not as expected. Quite lumpy with far too regular changes in wind strength and direction from passing clouds and showers.

We've had our parasailor out for a few hours this morning and it was lovely for a while, but with the winds pushing 20-25 knots regularly aren't able to keep it up for long.

Our problem now is we don't really have a strong-wind completely downwind solution as we don't have a pole. So, without the parasailor we've been gybing the angles which is costing us dearly in time and westerly progress.

Grib files suggest more of the same, so it's going to take us some time to work out our best configuration and get on track again. Hopefully the sea will calm, the squalls will decrease, the gradient wind decrease (so the squalls don't push it too high) and the direction will back a bit. We're doing 150 mile days, which is ok. If we had consistently good winds we'd easily make 180.

All else is ok and working well on board. Crew good, busy days, long nights. Tasty food. Big ocean.
