Timshel - Cocos to Mauritius Day 5

Cloudy today, we are not used to grey, but we are making good progress on a broad reach over a slightly lumpy sea. The boat doesn't seem to mind this; one odd wave slapped us broadside and sprayed the cockpit and aft deck - but this has happened before on the sheltered waters of the Clyde, in that case the person at the wheel got a soaking, here there is only rarely someone at the wheel. As usual the course required is the one that is difficult to steer, in this case because it is just up wind of what we make with the sails poled out wing and wing and just downwind of what we make on a broad reach with the sails on one side filling and not slatting about. So we are alternating the sail plan. We are also affected by the (luckily favourable) current sometimes it pushes us north a bit sometimes south. We are sailing across an empty sea, just a few birds about and you have to a deck patrol each to jettison the flying fish that have come aboard during the night. The last position report showed that we had overtaken Adrienne, but apparently she has power problems and has reduced speed. But maybe we will not be last? 1767 nm to go though.
