Lexington - Fiji Feast and Kava Party

The resort put on a Fiji feast and kava party. The food was cooked in an earthen oven. The fire was made over stones which were then covered with banana leaves. The meats were wrapped in banana leaves and the whole thing was covered with banana leaves. Everyone at the resort were seated at long tables.

After dinner they had dancing. The dancers were the employees and their children. It was a real family affair. Later everyone danced on the lawn while the tables and chairs were cleared for everyone to sit on woven mats. We were served Kava drinks.  Kava is a drink made of water and ground kava. The Kava drink is made from the dried and ground up roots and stalks of the Kava plant. It is ground into a powder and then mixed with water. It has a little narcotic or intoxicating effect. It is something the Fijian people do for relaxation and social events.
It was a very engaging evening. I felt a tiny part of their culture.
I will include some photos.
May fair winds fill your sails with mild intoxicatingly fun interaction with others! Bob
