Laura Dawn - Pacific Log 3: Every little helps

Well our spectacular sailing (9.5 knots!) came to an abrupt halt at 2:00 this morning when the wind dropped from 14 knots to 0 in seconds, then danced around the boat in full 360 circles followed by rain! Needless to say we are now motoring again. Theres been a few close attempts during the day, the asymmetric is rigged ready to go, its even been out twice only to be flumoxed by dropping and circling winds and wound back in again. What can I say: we are trying.

We currently have 6 knots of wind from 330 degrees, 2 reefs in the main (ready for the assymetric unveiling again) and are making 5 knots under engine. Not much current now but what there is helps a little. In fact we have just let a little genoa out: it has given us .3 of a knot. The excitement debate of the day is remembering which supermarket chain used every little helps in its advertising: which has become our phrase of the day. Its all go here on LD.

Jack has just baked his first loaf of bread: which I have to say is looking fab.. Hels may now rest on Laurels.

Last night we discovered a stowaway in the form of Gary the gecko, who we think may have joined us on a pineapple in San Cristobal, lets hope he stays out of our cabins, or we won't get into Aus!
