Misto - Days 36-40: Across the equator at 03h11 on February 15!

The first day of this leg had us surfing waves at up to 18 knots in 30-35 knots of wind. It was a wonderful roller coaster sail. In one day we clocked a record 205 miles - the 2-3 knot current helping us along.

The wind moderated on the following days but was generally a little better than the weather forecast and we managed to sail using the parasailer or gennaker until 02h00 on February 15 when we reluctantly fired up the engine.

We crossed the equator about an hour later and celebrated with Champaign and snickers bars in the early morning hours.

We now have Isla San Cristobal in sight and should be anchored later this afternoon. This will bring to an end a wonderful few weeks with Chuck and Sharon and we thank them for being fantastic crew. We are looking forward to welcoming Carl on board later this month.
