Misto - Days 34-36: Misto comes second on the Santa Marta to San Blas leg and sets off to the Galapagos.

At the long-awaited prize giving at Contadora, Misto came second to Hanna and ahead of Sumore in the catamaran class on the challenging Santa Marta to San Blas leg. Congratulations to our crew for achieving this. An enjoyable beach BBQ rounded off this leg and period of cruising.

The following day we set off for the Galapagos, hoping that our hull is free of barnacles and that we will have wind for a reasonable part of this leg. For 36 hours the wind built up to 35 knots and we romped towards our destination. We clocked 205 nm in one 4 hour period, aided by a favorable current of up to 4 knots, and saw a record of 18 knots as we surfed a wave. However all good things come to an end and on day 36 we have 9-10 knots of wind directly behind us. The parasailer is up and the continued favorable current of 2.5 knots is helping us along at around 5 knots. We expect the wind to continue to die and to be forced to motor at some point.
