Mustique - Day 8 - Seventh Blog - The one that got away..

Sunday was officially day 7, a week since we crossed the start line almost perfectly, or at least better than one more famous racing boat did we understand (;-)

It couldn’t got by without mention of Finn’s Sunday dinner - which was an amazing mid afternoon roast. A fantastic meal to accompany our very northerly trajectory (we understand we could be the most northerly boat that isn’t still in the Canary Islands!). Our chance of taking this more northerly route seems to be holding good as we experience winds w over the last 24 hours which keep us chugging along around the 5kt VMG average we understand. In fact we’ve worked out that we are closer now to Bermuda than St Lucia and if we continue this course to maintain wind we have decided we are going to enter the America’s Cup. Robbo and I have been planning some modifications with Finn’s approval (well he hasn’t said no yet anyway) to turn the boat into a full foiling vessel just in time for our entry - I suspect Larry Ellison and Ben Ainsley are quaking own their sailing boots.

Overnight and into day 8 both Livi and Tom’s shifts and Anders and Carol both witnessed large fishing boat and a commercial vessels respectively. Quite what a fishing boat was doing this far intro the Atlantic was anyone’s guess. But most likely it wall America’s Cup boars checking out our foil design (which so far consistent of the shower doors from our en suite bathroom.

Big news today was the fish I almost caught. Aided by Stef who was winding the reel while I had to wear gloves to pull the line by hand we wrestled for around 30 minutes and clambered down onto the swimming platform and as it was about to be hauled in Finn first thought it could be a shark then quickly realise it was a huge Dorado (some 1.5m in length or more). We have video footage if no-one believes us. Sadly the line broke just as the fish managed to cleverly swim under the boat which broke the line against the swimming platform. A real shame, but not sure what we’d have done with a fish that big as there are no other boats this far north to share its with - thinking about that maybe we should start a business supplying food along the way to other Arc boats - now that is a money making scheme for next year…
