Tulla Mhor - Day -2 lots of preparation

Nearly there. My main task has been shopping for food and I have found it difficult to think of provisions for 4 people over 3 weeks without the chance to pop out to the local shop. I thought I was on top of it and had ordered from the green grocers and butchers at the beginning of the week but seem to have become more indecisive as time progressed. Hugo and I went to the supermarket yesterday afternoon. It is quiet in the afternoons as the locals have siesta and are not about. The shop was full of ARC sailors pushing several trolleys around all ladened high. Everyone seemed highly organised with lists and exuding a sense of purpose. Hugo and I went up and down the aisles chucking stuff into the trolleys. Although I did not feel I knew what I was doing the supermarket has seen it all before and were quietly helpful managing to pack everyone's shopping into big boxes for delivery.

It was delivered later that day. Complete disorganisation on the boat with bags everywhere. Cushions of the back of the seats strewn around adding to the general sense of overwhelming chaos. Amazingly everything fitted in with space to spare. I have been trying to keep a note of where everything is so I can find it again but as Dugald was putting things away I was not really keeping up. Plus I review I can't read my writing. The upshot was we felt we did not have enough food so another trip for me to the supermarket.

Today all the fruit and vegetables and tomorrow some meat. A bit of a challenge for the fridge as there is less scope for inventive packing.

Dugald has been continuing with boat organisation. Hugo went up the mast to thread a spare main halyard. It was his first time up a big mast and he does not like heights so he was pleased to do it. He and Dugald have been up several times since fixing foam piping onto the rigging in an attempt to reduce wear on the sails. The main sail is back on and we spent some time organising the reefing lines which gave us some grief with chafe on the way down here. At great expense we now have beautiful smooth tactile Antal rings for the ropes to go through. Hope this works.

One more party and 2 sleeps and then we are off.

Val
