Fleet II - Log: Saturday 19th Nov. Living the dream(?)

I can start the blog with another wildlife sighting, as a huge tuna jumped into the air and pirouetted before disappearing back into the water – a glorious sight.
Since then things have gone downhill a bit - for the first time since we started our escapade (back at the start of November) we’ve had to face up to a bit of adversity – I guess it can’t be perfect all the time!
Mishap 1 - just after lunch on Friday, having set the fishing line out and readying for a relaxing afternoon, the Asymetric halyard snapped and we had our largest sail dragging in the sea.  Fortunately we pulled it in quickly enough to avoid any serious damage, but it slowed us down and dampened spirits a little.  Mishap 2 - while settling down to dinner, a pretty severe squall blew through from nowhere and turned our little world upside down.  It was pitch black, the rain merged with the sea, and winds gusted to 30 knots – we dropped the sails as quickly as we could and held tight.  Peter – who sailed ARC+ last year – said he hadn’t seen anything so intense.  On the other hand Keith just thought it was interesting!  Finally, we’ve had tropical downpours through most of the night / morning with little wind – we’ve all been drenched on watch.  Only now is the sky lightening up a bit and we have decent wind; let’s hope it lasts a while.
So, three days into leg two and around 325 miles made good.  We’re hoping for better winds to crack on a bit – and personally I’d prefer not so many of those squalls!
Best wishes to all
