Endeavour of Cork - Getting closer now...!

D-day minus 2.....

The last couple of days have been a flurry of fixing, buying, testing, breaking, fixing again, making lists, ticking items off the lists, adding even more to the lists.... the first load of provisions arrived yesterday evening and somehow has been magicked away into nooks and crannies all over the boat.... 200 litres of bottled water, 24 litres of milk, I lost count of the litres of juice.... and that was just the stuff that was easy to count.  Fresh fruit/veg and meat are due tomorrow, let's hope the Tardis is big enough!!!

Anaïs is up and down the mast like a jack-in-the-box as we try to identify a problem with the radar and fix it. Mairéad was in charge of hoisting her (thank goodness for electric winches!) and not dropping her onto the deck on the way back down.

Denise, Conor and Laura are in and out of town and chandler's like billy-o  getting the latest list of stuff we've forgotten or didn't realise we needed.

Dermot has been buried under a mountain of tools for the past two days and is proving to be a very valuable Mr. Fixit.

We dined royally last night on board courtesy of Anaïs.... spuds dauphinoise, burgers and garlicky green beans.... if this is a sign of things to come then I think we'll probably survive the voyage in some style (and possibly have to be craned off the boat on arrival!!)

The weather here in Las Palmas had been lovely... mixed sunny and overcast, and a few drops of rain yesterday, which means it hasn't been too punishingly hot - good when there's lots of work to be done.

At this stage we're just trying to get to somewhere near the bottom of the endless lists and are really looking forward to getting going.

We may not do very well in the "race" end of things as our handicap as issued appears to be based on a mainsail that is 4 metres high and 14 metres long!!! (I'd like to see the mast and boom arrangement that would take that sail!) Hopefully that can be adjusted before we leave by the ever-helpful ARC staff who are going at full tilt every day getting 73 boats and crews ready to depart on Sunday.

The ARC+ farewell party is tonight, which we're all looking forward to. A chance to meet all the other crews and let our hair down before setting sail. Anaïs may even be persuaded to sing!

Spot our intrepid crew member way, way up high.... rather her than me!!!

Hi to everyone at home,

Endeavour over and out.
